Do any of you have Experience And/Or Opinions re: private health insurance providers? Unless Rudd hurries the fuck up re: dental, I'm gonna need to sign up to somebody soon.

Back from three days of camping. Good fun. Slightly sunburned, good workout though. I think we lugged 20kg packs over steep and/or broken ground for about 4-5 hours a day. Landscape was beautiful. Some of it had the same colour palette as Avatar seems to. There was a lot of wide, sandy riverbeds with large lavender and duckegg-blue rocks and boulders, with an even stippling of incredibly bright green plantlife shooting up straight and thin at regular spaces. Slept by rivers, on sand. Finally had an opportunity to learn how to correctly strap a weighted pack, which is going to be invaluable. The mountains were the entire world there, and every single tree had a blackened trunk. When that place was burning, it would have been a thing to see. Hard to imagine.

Nettie loaned me her camera. No idea how the shots turned out. If they're decent I'll post a couple.

Sorted a few things out, decided my first tattoo will be 'Stasis Is Death', which I'll get done here. I'll be getting another done over there.

Muscles hurt good. Going to watch Nightbreed. Hope yours was a good one.

Another gem from Rock, Paper, Cynic:

"After what you said, I wish you'd never been born. But it's worse than that. I wish you'd never been conceived. Meiosis was wasted on you.

You shame the beautiful improbability of life, and everything that makes us what we are.

Science isn't stupid.

You're stupid."

While I normally find small ornaments terribly kitsch, I'm somewhat fond of these small model boats my father has. And even more fond of the way they're arranged within a spreading plant to give the effect, from a distance, of sailing a rather wild anime sea.

I'm not referring to the large, wet dog tongue that was thrust under the duvet in search of my nose.

I'm talking about the deer that I saw out the window on the way back from the bathroom.

My parents keep a set of binoculars by the upstairs bay window that points towards the nearby woods, and having spotted some small blobs I snatched them up and managed to focus in on about 8 deer (all female, so far as I could tell) grazing on the edge of the woods.

I'd been hoping I'd see them, and I'm glad they wandered into view before I head back to Scotland tomorrow.

People are still hoping I have a Happy Chanukah, if any of you are still wondering. I suspect it's going to be Chanukah for months!

If at first you don't succeed, try, try again. Then quit. There's no point in being a damn fool about it. --WC Fields
