Trying to fix Chakae's XP machine. It's not doing POST on powerup, is going straight to the Safe Mode Select (Windows Advanced Options Menu) screen. Regardless of the selection here, it goes to the Windows XP loading screen, then blackscreens with a flash of blue, then back to the Safe Mode Select screen.
It won't boot off the WinCD. I suspect this is because the option's turned off in CMOS, but I can't get to CMOS--on powerup, it goes straight to the Safe Mode Select screen.
I've googled, but am not finding any answers. Best I know, she's not changed or upgraded anything, hardware or software. I unplugged everything but the barebones: keyboard, mouse, monitor.
It's an old box. It has USB ports, but I'm not even sure there's an option to boot off USB, but I'm pretty sure, if there is, it's turned off in CMOS.
Anybody got any ideas? One thing I haven't tried is pounding F12 on startup. But I'm not there now.
